INDIANAPOLIS -- A former Hoosier Lottery security official accused of rigging a million-dollar scratch-off game will appeal a court ruling upholding the state's harsh penalty for breaching lottery security.

William Foreman could face up to 50 years in state prison if he's convicted of disclosing confidential lottery information.

A judge rejected a motion by Foreman's attorney to dismiss the charge because the penalty was disproportionate to other crimes.

Attorney Jack Crawford said Foreman will appeal the ruling to the Indiana Supreme Court if necessary.

The appeal could delay the start of Foreman's trial, scheduled for March 20.
