HUDSON, FL -- A Pasco County couple who won a $13 million Florida Lotto jackpot in 1990 say they have been nearly broke for years. To make matters worse, a federal grand jury indicted them this week on charges of filing false income tax returns.

Alex and Rhoda Toth are charged with filing fraudulent income tax returns in 2000, 2001 and 2002. If convicted, they could face up to 24 years in prison. The Internal Revenue Service also is seeking over $550,000 in back taxes.

Federal court records show Rhoda Toth filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection in 2001 and 2002. Alex Toth filed for similar protection in 2001. Their mobile home was foreclosed on two years ago.

The lottery money was supposed to be spread out over 20 years, but the couple said they sold the annuity to pay debts.
