Missouri Lottery '06 sales up 16.5%

Missouri Lottery sales for fiscal year 2006 jumped 16.5 percent to a new record of more than $915 million from $785.6 million in 2005, according to unaudited, estimated figures released Friday.

Missouri Lottery reported that more than $260 million was transferred to the Lottery Proceeds Fund to benefit various public education programs. Total proceeds to the state, including education, since the Missouri Lottery began are more than $2.7 billion.

About 27.3 cents of every dollar spent on the Lottery benefits education programs; 61.6 cents are awarded in prizes; 5 cents are used for administrative costs and 6.1 cents goes to retailers in commissions, incentives and bonuses.
