French Lottery Player Wins 57 Million Euros

A French lottery player won 57.41 million euros (73.22 million dollars) in the "Euro Millions" lottery, the French lottery company Francaise des Jeux said Saturday.

The winning ticket was bought in Port-de-Bouc in the southern French department of Bouches-du-Rhone. The ticket-holder, the third largest French winner, had five correct numbers out of a possible 50 and two stars. The chances of winning the jackpot were one in 76 million.

The "Euro Millions" lottery is played in nine European countries - France, Spain, Portugal, Britain, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland and Austria.

The largest jackpot - 183.57 million euros - was shared between three ticket-holders from France and Portugal in February. The largest individual winner was Irishwoman Dolores McNamara who won 115.44 million euros in 2005.
