RALEIGH -- Lottery officials say that a Charlotte truck driver collected his $1 million prize on Monday after matching five of the winning numbers in last Saturday's Powerball drawing.

Don Blackmon is the second $1 million winner in North Carolina since the North Carolina lottery joined the multi-state numbers game in May, say lottery officials.

Mr. Blackmon collected his prize of $680,000, the amount received after taxes, at the lottery's headquarters in Raleigh on Monday afternoon.

He told lottery officials that he realized he had matched the winning numbers on Sunday afternoon.

"I went to a store and the clerk told me I had a winner," he told the lottery. "I couldn't believe it. I had to sit down and look at the numbers over and over."

Blackmon said he purchased his winning ticket at Circle K #6315 on North Main Street in Archdale, a small town near High Point that runs through Guilford and Randolph counties.

He told the NC lottery that he normally purchases his tickets in Archdale and Thomasville, towns that are on his delivery truck route. Archdale is his first stop.

"I normally get my tickets on the way back through Archdale," he said. "This time I decided to buy my tickets while I was there. I am glad I did because it really paid off."

According to the lottery, Blackmon said he might purchase a new Mustang with his winnings and buy his 11 year old daughter Shanequa "anything she wants."
