DERRY, N.H. - A manager at a convenience store has been charged with stealing nearly $16,000 worth of lottery scratch tickets.

Jaqueline Laferriere was charged with stealing the tickets from Brothers’ Corner Variety in Derry.

Police said the manager noticed missing tickets in April; Laferriere was arrested after a six-month investigation.

"She would rub off the scratch portion that had the code number," Capt. Vern Thomas said. "The code number would tell if it’s a winning ticket, but you can only tell if it’s a winning ticket with the code number if you scan it with a lottery machine."

In court documents, Laferriere told Derry police Detective Joseph Bennett that she took tickets from the rack without paying, and that she had been taking tickets since February.

Police said Laferriere wasn’t sure how much she won from the tickets.

Laferriere faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
