A man faces robbery and lottery fraud charges in Davenport for allegedly stealing hundreds of lottery tickets and trying to cash a stolen $500 lottery ticket.

Darren Johnson, 36, was arrested Monday on one count of robbery and three counts of lottery fraud after police said he tried to cash the $500 ticket at a Davenport grocery store.

Court records said store employees tried to detain Johnson, who fought to get free.

Police said Johnson also tried to cash the lottery ticket at a local gas station before the incident at the grocery store.

The charges also accuse Johnson of stealing 227 lottery tickets from a Bettendorf business.

Bettendorf Police Chief Phil Redington said the incident occurred at a Casey’s Carry Out Pizza early Monday. He said the tickets were stolen after a store window was broken out.

Johnson was in the Scott County Jail Tuesday.
