Company Executive Was Worried About Geddings On N.C. Lottery Panel

RALEIGH, N.C. -- A lottery executive said he was concerned about how people would perceive Kevin Geddings and his connection to the company's top lobbyist before Geddings was appointed as a lottery commissioner.

Bill Fox, a regional director for Scientific Games, provided that testimony Monday in the government's trial against Geddings. Geddings faces eight counts of fraud for failing to reveal his financial ties to the New York-based company.

Another Scientific Games executive affirmed government evidence showing that Geddings received close to $9,700 in April, 2001 from a company later acquired by Scientific Games. That payment was for a meeting with Gov. Mike Easley about bringing a lottery to the state.

Easley said he doesn't remember any meeting with Geddings and was unaware he worked for Scientific Games until it became public earlier this year.
