RALEIGH, N.C. -- The newest state lottery offering, the Carolina Pick 3, generated $1.1 million in sales in its first weekend, officials said.

The game's launch went smoothly, but lottery director Tom Shaheen said it's too early to judge how it's doing. Officials said they expect about $350,000 in daily sales from the Pick 3, a three-number drawing.

North Carolinians spent $480,000 on Friday, $402,000 on Saturday and $229,000 on Sunday in the Pick 3. The lottery paid $486,000 in prizes over the three days.

"It's done what we've expected it to do," Shaheen said, adding that rainy weather might have hurt sales.

The other new drawing game, the Carolina Cash 5, starts Oct. 27.
