37-year-old tool-and-die worker will receive $1,000 a week for the rest of his life.

Robert E. Price of Richmond is the winner of the Win for Life grand prize, the Kentucky Lottery Corp. announced Wednesday morning.

Price bought the winning ticket on Saturday, but he didn’t check the winning numbers until 4 p.m. Monday as he was listening to the radio at work.

Three of the announced numbers sounded familiar, he said. Price took out his ticket and checked the numbers on the Kentucky Lottery Corp.’s Web page.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Price said. “I kept staring at the screen and looking at my numbers.”

Price said he would make investments for his son’s college fund.

“And there will be investments made for when I get ready to retire — hopefully early,” Price said.

Price works for South Park Tool and Die in Richmond.

His wife, Susan, is a registered nurse for St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, and they have a 6-year-old son, Brandon.

Price will receive his winnings quarterly.

The estimated odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 5.2 million.

Jack Wyatt, owner of Jack’s BP in Richmond, received a check for $5,200 for selling the winning ticket.
