Retired couple wins $200,000 lottery prize

HANSEN - For three years the newlywed couple played the lottery every Wednesday and Saturday night.

Any monotony was broken Thursday when they realized they had won $200,000.

Bernie Bradshaw said he always reads the winning numbers in the Times-News on Thursday and Sunday nights, and then writes them on a notepad.

"He started reading me the numbers on his pad as I was checking the tickets," said his wife, Susie. "Well, he was reading the same numbers I had on one of my tickets and I told him to stop reading me the numbers on my ticket and read me the numbers from the paper."

When they realized that they held the winning numbers - minus the winning Powerball - the retired couple started jumping around their house while shouting their surprise.

There had been some confusion about where the winning lottery ticket had been sold because one of the ticket's identifying numbers was not included in the announcement.

"Our retailers have unique identifying numbers and when the winning ticket was reported to us, one number was left out," David Workman, Idaho Lottery spokesman, stated in a press release. "This led us to originally believe the ticket was sold in Jerome."

But the Bradshaws had actually bought the winning ticket at Ridley's Food and Drug in Kimberly. Ridley's will receive a $20,000 bonus check from the Idaho Lottery.

Bernie is a retired snowplow driver from Salmon; Susie ran the Hansen Elementary School cafeteria for 34 years before retiring.

After taxes, the couple will receive $134,400, although they said they do not have any immediate plans for the money.

"All our Christmas presents are already bought," Susie said. "So I think we'll just stick this in a rat hole for a rainy day."
