Powerball Jackpot Climbs To $75 Million

Sunday, December 24, 2006 posted 10:06 AM EST

The Powerball jackpot continues to climb. No one hit the jackpot Saturday, but 581,371 players across the nation won a total of more than $5.6 million in prizes.

Because no one correctly matched all six numbers in Saturday's drawing the jackpot will grow to an estimated $75 million.

The cash option for the Wednesday, December 27th drawing will be an estimated $36.3 million.

The numbers drawn Saturday were 8, 27, 43, 52, 53, and the Powerball was 5. The Power Play multiplier was 5.

Many lottery players now buy tickets online. Four tickets correctly matched the 5 white numbers and won $200,000.

Twenty-one tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Three additional winners at that prize level also had the Power Play option multiplying their winnings 5 times for a total of $50,000.

There were 112,369 winning Powerball tickets that multiplied their prize by 5 Saturday. Players holding these tickets were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for one dollar. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings by 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.
