Is anyone a $370 million winner?

Winning numbers for the $370 million Mega Millions jackpot were drawn Tuesday night -- but it wasn't immediately clear if anyone actually has a winning ticket.

The winning numbers were: 16-22-29-39-42, and the Mega Ball was 20.

Lottery officials said it would be several hours before they knew if there was a winner and, if so, where the winning ticket was purchased.

The huge 12-state jackpot had astonishing odds: 1 in 175,711,536. That's ""175,'' as in millions. Those odds are even worse than one of those carnival booths where you pitch a dime and try to get it to land on a piece of glass.

But anyone can dream, and any adult with $1 could play.

Before Tuesday night's drawing, the Mercury News interviewed people from all walks of life well, OK, from at least several walks of life to see what they'd do if they won the jackpot.

The Rev. Jonathan Cuarto, parochial vicar at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milpitas, has never played the lotto and isn't planning to start now. And even if he did get a windfall of well over $370 million, he wouldn't spend it on fast cars or a mansion. He'd "donate it to the church. I could make my church bigger to accommodate a lot of people."
