Lottery ticket theft suspects held in Galveston

Officials say luck has run out for a couple accused of stealing thousands of dollars' worth of Texas lottery scratch-off tickets from Bedford convenience stores and gas stations.

Darrell Ray Shaver, 33, was in custody Thursday in Galveston, and Bedford police have issued an arrest warrant for Barbara Cook, 28.

The couple were arrested last weekend in Galveston County on charges unrelated to the Bedford cases. Galveston officials noted Bedford's statewide plea for assistance and contacted officials there, authorities said Thursday. But Cook posted bail before Bedford authorities could obtain an arrest warrant.

Investigators believe that the couple left Dallas-Fort Worth last week after authorities released store surveillance videos showing the theft of tickets at six businesses this month. Police received tips that identified the suspects.
