$60-million Mega Millions jackpot still unclaimed

Maybe the shock stunned the winner into silence.

How else to explain why the holder of last Friday's winning $60 million lottery ticket that was sold at a Studio City convenience store has yet to claim the jackpot, officials said today.

California State Lottery officials said they did not know if the MEGA Millions ticket with the number combination of 5, 21, 23, 33, 45 and MEGA Number 43 was purchased by an individual or a group. "Given the location of this lottery retailer, the winner could be a local resident, a commuter or someone simply visiting the Los Angeles area," they said in a statement.

The owners of the 7-Eleven store at 11007 Ventura Blvd. in Studio City will receive $300,000 for selling the winning ticket.

The ticket holder has 180 days to claim the jackpot.

It's unusual for large jackpots to go unclaimed, but the winner of a $28.5 million Super Lotto Plus jackpot announced in September 2003 in Alameda County never came forward, said lottery spokeswoman Olga Gallardo.
