POWERBALL, Sep 21, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- The jackpot in America's game keeps growing and growing. Even though the grand prize was not hit Saturday evening, Powerball had some huge winners. Two tickets in Connecticut (1), and Indiana (1) matched all 5 white ball numbers with the Power Play for an incredible $1 million cash win each! Two other lucky tickets sold in Montana (1), and Wisconsin (1), each won $200,000 cash by matching all 5 white ball numbers!

The jackpot for the Wednesday, September 24th drawing will be $176 million with the cash option at $89 million.

The numbers drawn Saturday evening were 6, 28, 30, 40, 47, and the Powerball was 24. The Power Play multiplier was 5.

A whopping 42 tickets matched 4 white numbers plus the Powerball and won $10,000. Nine additional tickets of that prize level had the Power Play and had the prize multiplied by 5 for a $50,000 cash win! A total of 865,771 tickets across the nation won more than $9.5 million in prizes playing America's favorite game.

A total of 135,790 winning Powerball tickets multiplied their prize by 5 Saturday. Players were able to do that by purchasing the Power Play option for $1. With Power Play you multiply your Powerball winnings from 2-5 times, except for the jackpot. At the beginning of each drawing a wheel is spun to select that night's multiplier.

Players should carefully check their tickets after every draw. Even if there are no jackpot winners there are always tens of thousands of winners at other prize levels.

Players purchased $36,751,428 in Powerball and Power Play tickets between Thursday and Saturday night.

The lotteries sold $2.56 billion in Powerball tickets in fiscal year 2008. That translates into over $743 million for worthwhile state projects.

Powerball is now played in 29 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
